Bernardus Lodge & Spa

Carmel, Califonia

Bernardus Lodge & Spa is ideally nestled in sunny Carmel Valley on the famed Monterey Peninsula. A creative haven that stirs all the senses, Carmel Valley blends nature’s majesty with man’s artistry. There’s no better place to tap into its small-town charms than at Bernardus Lodge & Spa. Tucked among 28 acres of rolling vineyards, orchards and gardens, we invite you to savor the intimacy of a stylish Carmel resort with an epicurean spirit and a soothing soul.
The property’s Italian stonework, mosaic tiles and French oak floors give it the feel of an immaculate ranch estate. Neutral colors (think olive and grey) are offset by pops of orange and fuchsia. The estate takes advantage of its picturesque surroundings with large windows, an al fresco dining terrace, and a smattering of outdoor fireplaces. Since 1999, Chef Cal Stamenov has wowed visitors to Bernardus with his locally sourced menu incorporating produce grown on the property. Classically trained under such legends as Alain Ducasse and Masa Kobayashi, he’s best known for his portobello mushroom soup and slow-rendered quail. (For a special treat, book the four-person chefs table, where diners such as Julia Child and Leonardo di Caprio have signed the wall.)
