A Leading Hotels of the World member, the Schlössle offers five-star luxury in a beautifully restored 13th-century merchant's house in one of the quieter quarters of Tallinn's Old Town. Entries in an absorbing guestbook range from rock group Status Quo to Queen Elizabeth II who dropped in for a visit in 2006. Tallinn's marvelous Unesco-World-Heritage-listed medieval Old Town, with its many boutiques, bars and restaurants, is the zenith of the Estonian capital's attractions, so guests will appreciate having it on their doorstep. Exploring the Old Town is best on foot but the area is ringed with a good network of buses and trams. Designer Jean Pierre Martel takes the credit for the tasteful interiors, which sacrifice none of the authentic and historic, intimate boutique-hotel character. The preserved wooden ceiling beams in the sumptuous lobby area emphasize the sense of history, a theme that continues into a garden annex and the atmospheric cellar Stenhus Restaurant.
