Friends in Africa

Outdoors, Wildlife, Food, Wine & Culture!

OCTOBER 4-14, 2024
How about a trip down under? Not that down under, the other one..Africa!

Join this group of friends in October 2024 for 10 days of a memorable experience culminating in a 3-day safari.
Featuring Cape Town, The Winelands, and Kruger National Park, this 10-night journey introduces you to South Africa, where you will most certainly leave your heart behind. Below, you will find the itinerary we have designed for your party. It is one that we have hosted many times, and a great way to introduce you to the highlights of this beautiful and diverse country.
Partly hosted, let yourself be pampered on this journey. Relax, leave the worries and logistics to us and discover the beauty of this continent in all its splendor.

A note from your travel consultant, Mikael.

South Africa is truly a magical place to visit, yet, 10 days is not enough to do it justice.
On this itinerary, we are providing you with a sample tasting of what the country has to offer. We start in Cape Town where we recommend 4 full days. Since most flights from the US arrive late, we have included in this package 5 nights in the Mother city.
We continue to the Winelands with 2 nights. The Cape Winelands is one of the oldest wine-producing regions after France itself. It boasts incredible 16th-century Dutch Colonial architecture, beautiful scenery, and some of the best wines in the World. Your last stop will be in Kruger National Park which you reach in under 3 hours via a direct flight from Cape Town. There, 2 game drives a day are organized and everything is included. It is the Crescendo of your journey.
Why come so far and not add 2 days at the Victoria Falls? You tell us. We are standing by to make it happen. And yes, 2 nights are enough.
This sample itinerary is the most popular one among our guests wanting to get a taste of what the country is about, and has to offer. However, other options are available on request. Namely, adding 3 nights to cover the beautiful coastline called "The Garden Route".

DAY 1

SOUTH AFRICA AT A GLANCE
Welcome to Cape Town
Due to a late arrival of your international flight (if using United or Delta), we have not planned anything today.
You will be privately picked up at the airport and transferred to your property.
A late dinner may be arranged for you as well.

Day 2 | B, D

After a morning at leisure, meet your host and guide for an overview visit of the city. It will be light, fun, and engaging, we promise. Later, we regroup at the V&A Waterfront for a short visit to the African Modern Art museum before enjoying sunset on top of the remarkable Silo Hotel with some of our favorite cocktails. A 3-course hosted dinner, with wine pairings, is served there in a private memorable setting.

Day 3 | B,L

Cape Town & the famous Table Mountain
This morning, meet again with your private guide who will cover a few additional section of Cape Town, most importantly the colorful Bo Kaap district. After a traditional Cape Malay lunch at one of our favorite eclectic restaurants on Kloof Street, we will travel up the iconic Table Mountain in a cable car. The mountain is one of the New 7 Wonders of the World and offers panoramic views of the peninsula. In the evening, enjoy a leisurely dinner with our recommendations.

Day 4 | B, D

Best Warm Places To Visit In December - Simons Town Penguins, South Africa | By Art In Voyage
The Cape Peninsula
Explore the Table Mountain National Park on this all-day adventure. First, we stop at the quaint seaside town of Kalk Bay and continue to the penguin colony where we may get the chance to walk among them. Afterward, we journey to the southernmost tip of Africa to the Cape of Good Hope. On the way back, we drive through the famous Chapman's Peak pass and Hout Bay. Tonight, we have set dinner on the coastline, enjoying the sunset over Cape Town in a beautiful privatized setting.

Day 5 | B

Markets, Gin & local Beer
What does one do on Saturdays? Make their way to one of the two (or both) incredibly colorful and vibrant markets of Cape Town. We suggest starting with the Oranjezicht market at Granger bay, close to the waterfront. It showcases over 45 local artisans & farmers and their latest creations and fresh products. Enjoy some of the samples, or sit down for a coffee overlooking the Ocean. Then, we make our way to the Old Biscuit Mill. Live music and more local food artisans await. It is followed by a Gin tasting next door and, why not, a beer tasting at one of our local breweries. Guests wanting more are welcome to pay a visit to the Kirstenbosch gardens before settling for the evening at yet another incredible eatery the town has to offer.

Day 6 | B,L,D

Cape Winelands By Art In Voyage
The Winelands
This morning, we make our way to the heart of the Cape Winelands where the Wine Fairy meets us for a day of all things wine. After carefully selecting 2-3 wineries based on our guests' preferences, we start a fun and fascinating wine tour in a breathtaking setting. For lunch, we have reserved a table at our favorite winery. Tonight, dinner is prepared by our own chef in the manor house of our property and served with local wines.

Day 7 | B

Under the Umbrian Spell, by Art In Voyage
The Winelands
Day at leisure. Guests wanting to do more wine tours would have the full attention of our hosts to get this organized. The region is also known for its excellent farms, and food tours may be organized for guests wanting to try the excellent cheeses and meats of the region. From the Winelands, an afternoon trip to Hermanus may also be organized, for a whale-watching experience. This is the perfect season to see whales and their babies in the bay of Hermanus. Dinner is at leisure

Day 8 | B, D

Off to Kruger
An early wake-up call awaits, but for all the right reasons. Today, we make our way to Greater Kruger National Park via a connecting flight. We arrive on time for our afternoon game drive and a sundowner, before a welcome dinner is served in the dry river bed, with traditional dances throughout the evening.

Day 9 | B,L,D

African Safari, by Art In Voyage
Kruger Safari
Morning and afternoon game drives await while in Kruger. Our quest is the BIG 5 (Elephants, Buffalos, Lions, Leopard, and Rhinos). In between game drives, enjoy some time by the pool, or ask your rangers to take you on a walking safari. Tonight, dinner is served on the deck.

Day 10 | B,L,D

Zambia & Victoria Falls, by Art In Voyage
Kruger Safari
Morning and afternoon game drives await while in Kruger. We continue looking for the BIG 5, and along the way, we enjoy as the bush awakes at the early hours of the day. Take a deep breath and listen to the sounds across the plains as the wildlife starts its day, be it hunting, feeding, or simply enjoying yet another day in the bush. After another day enjoying the peace, quiet and exceptional scenery, we close with a memorable sundownder followed by dinner served at the property.

Day 11 | B

Zambia & Victoria Falls, by Art In Voyage
Time to say good bye..or?
Today, you catch a flight to Johannesburg where you connect with your international flight! OR EXTEND TO THE VICTORIA FALLS
Our extension to the Victoria Falls starts with a direct flight to Livingstone, Zambia. On arrival, you are transferred to our favorite property, The Royal Livingstone. On the property, you will find zebras and springbok roaming, as well as the occasional Giraffe. This afternoon, you make your way across the river to the Royal Livingstone island, where afternoon tea awaits and one of the most exciting and thrilling adventures: The Devil's pool. Helped by your guide, slowly walk to the edge of the falls where you sit for a little while in a natural pool, enjoying the views and feeling the strong water pressure all around you. Evening at leisure.

Extension: Day 12 | B

Kayaking Victoria Falls, by Art In Voyage
Splendor of the falls
Early this morning (can also be done on Day 13 should you prefer to sleep in), you enjoy a memorable microlight flight over the falls. The tour we have included is 15 minutes but can be extended to 30 minutes for a small supplement. Prefer to experience this with your spouse or friend? A helicopter scenic flight can be substituted to the microlight. After your flight, return to the property to enjoy a lovely breakfast. The rest of the day is at leisure. We may arrange kayaking or a guided walk of the falls should you want to. A day trip to Chobe National Park, in neighboring Botswana can also be arranged for more wildlife viewing.
